This post will remain stuck at the top of the page as it serves as a summary of the info known about the film. I'll continue to update it as more info comes in. More detailed updates will appear below this post.

Official Sites
  • 1-18-08.com - Contains snapshots taken at various times in the film. New photos are being added every once in a while. As of July 27, 2007, the snapshots can now be flipped over by dragging them back and forth rapidly, and some of them have messages written on the backs.

  • Slusho.jp - Markets the fictional Slurpee-esque beverage called Slusho. Contains a store selling T-shirts and baseball caps branded with the Slusho! logo and the advertising slogan "You Can't Drink Just Six."

  • Teaser at Apple.com - Contains the teaser first shown before screenings of Transformers as well as the official teaser poster as a background.

  • Official character MySpace profiles

  • JamieandTeddy.com - Jamie Lascano's site for her boyfriend Teddy Hanssen. Password is jllovesth.

  • Tagruato.jp - Slusho's parent company run by C.E.O. Ganu Yoshida.

Plot Details

Additional Info
  • Jason Hawkins (Mike Vogel) is seen in the teaser wearing a Slusho! T-shirt similar to the ones sold at Slusho.jp.

  • Slush-O was a Slurpee-esque beverage which appeared in the second episode of Abrams' television show ALIAS.

  • Moriarty of Ain't It Cool News reports that the monster is "being referred to internally as 'The Parasite.'"

  • An anonymous source present during the filming in Coney Island claims it is "an alien that wipes out all of New York City."

  • People have speculated that Kelvin Yu, Brian Klugman, and Yellowcard frontman Ryan Key appear in the teaser, but there is no evidence confirming or denying this. Similarly, it's been speculated that Aaron Paul appeared in one of the photos (which has since been removed) on Jamie's MySpace page, but even if it is him, this does not mean he will appear in the film.

Debunked Rumors
  • Ethan Haas has nothing to do with this film. Abrams wrote to Harry at Ain't It Cool News to dispel that rumor himself.

  • There are A LOT of fake sites floating around pretending to be official. They're not. I'm not even going to list them here because they don't deserve the additional traffic. Please do not waste my time asking me if a site you found is real or not. If it's not listed above, it's FAKE. Comments linking to such sites will be deleted and marked as spam.

  • The character in the teaser does not say, "It's a lion! It's huge!" He says, "It's alive! It's huge!"

  • Abrams' comments at Comic-Con indicate that the monster in this film is going to be original, and he specifically said that it is not Godzilla or King King. It's also not a remake of The Host or a sequel to Jurassic Park or Ghostbusters as Paramount does not own the rights to those franchises. It's completely unrelated to the upcoming Voltron movie. Similar rumors about other famous creatures are unsubstantiated and almost definitely false.

  • Abrams also dispelled rumors saying the title of the film was "Monstrous." These rumors started when an official poster was leaked with the word "MONSTROUS" above it. It turns out that this was the first in a series of four teaser posters for the film. Other posters contain the words "FURIOUS" and "TERRIFYING." No word yet as to what the fourth poster says. It's possible the fourth is just the same poster without a word above it.

New video on JamieAndTeddy.com. The password to the videos section is jllovesth in case you forgot. Or just watch it below.

She's full of shit. She totally cheated on him. But he's probably banging everything that moves whereever he is, so who cares?

Small update at Slusho.jp. Two new buttons on the main page, one for Distribution Opportunities and one without an English caption, which apparently says "Competition" with a creepy "We Will Find You!" when you hover over it.

Jamie posted a new video on JamieAndTeddy.com. The password to the videos section is jllovesth in case you forgot. Or just watch it below.

Another mention of the number 6. A date to wait for (December 9th). And...cornbread? Yea, I don't know what that's about. I'm actually not quite sure I want to.

Also, for those who can't afford to make international phone calls, CloverfieldClues recorded the message on Tagruato's voicemail. I believe the Japanese message says the same thing as the English one, or at least close to it: Japanese English

Of course everytime anything new is found, the people at unfiction forums tear it apart looking for clues to other sites, which usually turn out to be made by fans or completely unrelated. This time it appears they're on to something.

Dr. Awkward googled "kaitei no mitsu" (one of the ingredients if the recipe in my last post...which Lasher pointed out actually translates to something like "seabed nectar" rather than "deep sea crab") and found this restaurant review which seems to be related (and was posted last week, so before the recipe was added to 1-18-08.com). Iconsumer also found a couple of other reviews by the same review (Vernon MacDooble) on other sites here and here, which seem to be unrelated.

The mention of Tagruato in that first review led MrToasty to discover Tagruato.jp, which definitely seems legit (it was registered over two months ago). Slusho is a subsidiary of Tagruato, and the C.E.O. of Tagruato is none other than Ganu Yoshida. There's a lottt of info on this site (which interestingly can only be accessed by choosing English from the main page...the other languages aren't functional). Have fun looking through it. Also, Dr. Awkward called the number on the contact page and got a recording in Japanese and then in English (I assume they said the same thing, but my Japanese is minimal): Thank you for calling Tagruato, due to high call volumes we have transfered your call to the automated answering service. There are NO UPDATES at this time. Please leave us a message and we will return your call.

Also, I find it hilarious that Tagruato's little league team is called The Lions. They must be huge.

There's a 6th photo on 1-18-08.com. Very strange. There's no timestamp. Random Japanese chef. Not sure if this is the same asian guy from the teaser (who I'm pretty sure is Korean, not that that matters).

Thanks to hinoai at unfiction for translating the recipe on the back:
Everybody, thank you for viewing! I’ll introduce this week’s delicious recipe. Please make sure to keep this one cold!

* Skinless chicken breast - 2, cut in halves
* Sōmen noodles - 10 oz.
* Watercress - 1/2 cup cut into small strips
* Turnip - 1/2 cup, thinly sliced
* Shiitake Mushrooms - 1/2 cup
* Chicken stock - 1/3 cup
* Sake - 2 tbsp.
* Sugar - 1/2 tsp.
* Deep-sea crab - one

In a small saucepan, stir together 1/3 cup water, chicken stock, sake, and sugar. Chill it until it becomes cold. Grill the chicken breast on both sides for about 8 minutes, and then chill. Boil the noodles for about 3 minutes, and then run under cold water until chilled. Mix the watercress, turnips, and mushrooms into the sōmen. Slice the chicken thinly and arrange on top of the sōmen mix. Just before you serve, put the crab in the sauce and pour over the noodles generously.

Go Go Delicious Chef!

Anyone wanna try making it and seeing if it turns into a giant sea creature that destroys New York City? I would, but I'm out of chicken stock.

New site: JamieandTeddy.com. The character Jamie Lascano is apparently using this site to post videos for her boyfriend Teddy Hanssen. The password you'll need to view the videos is "jllovesth." Only one video has been posted so far, which is embedded below.

Apparently Jamie has a UTI. Looks like they want us to REALLY know these characters. ::shakes head:: At least they didn't forget about us.

Thanks to Nenya for the find, CrazyOver11808 for the password, and CloverfieldClues for uploading it to YouTube.

Obviously news has been very slow lately, but here's something to do if you haven't lost interest already. It was recently discovered that the 1080p teaser on apple.com contains 6 separate layers of audio. Nothing all that important seem to be hidden in there, but I found it very interesting to hear the teaser from different angles and you can definitely hear more snippets of dialogue in some of the layers that were previously hidden by special effects or noise. CloverfieldClues has extracted each layer of audio into separate mp3s (as well as a few snippets of dialogue). I'm surprised nobody thought to do this earlier...I actually assumed someone tried and the layers weren't different, but obviously they are. But you know what they say when one assumes...

Also, very strange and probably an irrelevant joke or coincidence, but when the Statue of Liberty head hits the corner of 401 Broadway, a cuckoo clock sound can be heard. Use headphones and turn your volume all the way up to hear it. I didn't believe it at first, but sure enough, it's there, and very audible...it's not another "IT'S A LION" thing, I assure you. I just listened for the sound on each channel separately, and on the third and fourth ones (left surround and right surround) you can hear it's actually part of a girl sobbing (which does sound very much like a cuckoo clock). Again I wonder why people didn't try separating the channels earlier when they were using noise filters to clean up the cuckoo sound.

Well it looks like they were updating the site and that's why it was down temporarily last night. Now when you open up 1-18-08.com, if you leave the page open for 5 to 10 minutes, the monster roars. Perfectly timed to go off the instant you forget about it. If you don't feel like waiting the 6 minutes you can hear it here (thanks to unfiction forums user mhovis for decompiling it).

1-18-08.com now redirects to Paramount.com (though you can still see the photos by going here). Maybe they're planning a major update. Maybe they've finally decided on an official title and are working on getting that site up. Maybe they changed the release date so "1-18-08" no longer means anything. Who knows? I'll keep you guys posted.

ETA: Well that only lasted a few hours, it's back to normal now. False alarm?

ETA2: Same thing again, wtf is going on??
